Introduction
We’re all economy watchers. We get snippets about it every day in the news – the Dow Jones Index is up (or down), gas prices are falling (well, right now they are rising), job levels grew (or fell). And the economy, be it national or state, is of particular interest to anyone in Indiana engaged in the development of our workforce. As a rule, it has generally been easier to capture forecasts and insights on the U.S. economy than it is for our state or regions. So each quarter, the Department of Workforce Development hosts an economic briefing for state government. While the primary focus is to provide the short-term forecast for jobs and income at the national and state levels, we also provide information on other important facets of the economy and its people. Access to those briefings is provided here, along with snapshots of the US and Indiana economy as forecast by the Center for Econometric Model Research at IU when they are released by that unit each quarter. There are also articles available from the Indiana Business Review each year with insights on the economic outlook for many of our regional economies.
